What is PaintRush?
PaintRush! is a 2D Top Down Hack and Slash Rougelike, with a focus on it’s unique color mixing mechanic and drops system.
Fight.
Battle, Splash, and Paint your way through hordes of enemies with your trusty paintbrush!
Attacking enemies builds up gauge, allowing for a lobbed shot!
Loot.
Enemies drop both Items and Colors to enhance your run.
Items provide buffs and abilities based on that items randomly rolled “preferred color” these buffs scale the closer your current paint color is to that preferred color.
Mix.
PaintRush! core gameplay loop makes use of it’s unique mixing mechanic
The player is given their color, which is visualized on screen, and also represented with a hexcode which is shown when hovered with the mouse. (As seen on the right)
Defeated enemies may drop colors, which the player may then interact with to either add or subtract from their current color. Thus changing their color into something entirely new.
Enemies may also drop items – stat boosters that give buffs depending on how close they are to their randomly assigned “preferred color”
This gives players targets to shoot towards as they mix to get their preferred buffs.
As players collect and stack more items, player expression opens up more and more.
Players get to decide which buffs to prioritize and by what degree.
This introduces strategy into the gameplay loop, and allows for personal player expression, while still leaving random elements in order to keep the game from getting stale.
